The Everpresent Love Revealed When God Falls Away

Over six years ago, the ontological ego (the experience of existence that consciousness is reality) fell away. Ever since, I’ve watched the psychological ego fall away. In this process, ego was wholly revealed. At the same time, consciousness itself—consciousness without ego—is rising more completely to conscious awareness. I’ve recorded much of this in these articles, and it has been an evolution.

Lately, I’ve used a particular analogy. And now I must dump it! It is this one:

If the sun were God (the Absolute), and sunlight was God’s Extension (Christ), and a house was consciousness, then the occupant of the house would be ego and the sunlight streaming into the house would be God’s (or Christ’s) Spirit.

Turns out: Nope. No part of the Absolute—which is what I meant by God—is in consciousness. All of consciousness is a representation of the idea of not-Truth and its undoing by the All-encompassing nature of Truth. The singular consciousness that is the source of all that appears in consciousness is the “truth” of consciousness, so represents the idea that there is a Truth. But it is not Truth and no part of Truth (the Absolute) enters into it.

I feel the final crossed wires here have unraveled and I can see clearly now. The wires that were crossed were the Absolute, Which is beyond consciousness, and the mystical experiences I had in consciousness. I knew that the singular consciousness behind all that appears is not Reality, is not Truth. But I was not certain of the source of mystical experiences—pure love, oneness, the golden Light of Love that blazed in my mind just before ego fell away. Now I know that they were merely the experience of the singular consciousness that gives rise to all appearances. Oh, yes, lovely experiences. Profound. Transcendent. And the “correction” of ego, which negates the singularity of consciousness by asserting its autonomy from it. But none of it is Truth (the Absolute) or from Truth. They are simply right here.

Phew!

I had heard that when ego falls away, God does, too. I thought this meant that one’s treasured concepts of God fall away. But no. There is no God! I did not know that ego and God were so entwined. The entire spiritual apparatus falls away with ego. I now experience a Great Deflation, not with dejection, but with wonder. It is simply that all sense of loftiness around spiritual ideas has dissipated in the awareness that mystical experiences reveal only the truth of consciousness, not Truth (the Absolute). They are no longer special. The good news is, this reveals how close the experience of transcendent love and oneness is that everyone seeks. It is simply the truth of consciousness so it is right here, not distant, not grand, not lofty. It is as ordinary as the air you breathe. And it is revealed all the time, in small and large ways. People sense it quite often. When they say things like, “I believe that deep down we’re all good” or “God is Love” they sense the singular consciousness that is the good experience of love. And it is revealed through what I have called the Holy Spirit or just Spirit. All along what I experienced as Guide and Teacher and Therapist was simply the singular consciousness behind all appearances. It had nothing to do with the Absolute.

It no longer feels apt to call the Absolute God, either, because that term implies a mutual relationship—creator and created—and there is no relationship between the Absolute and consciousness. The singularity of consciousness merely represents that there is a singular Truth (the Absolute), but it is not from Truth and bears no resemblance to It. In fact, God has no meaning outside of the context of ego, which asserts consciousness as reality. The Absolute simply is and does not have a relationship to ego or consciousness. It does not see Itself as a god, creator, maker, etc. All those characteristics attributed to a god—except for being the absolute—belong to the singular consciousness that is the source of all that appears. But it is so right here and ordinary that calling it God now feels as primitive as worshipping the sun.

Certainly, within the context of ego, it makes sense that the singular consciousness that is the source of all that appears would be considered God. But ego represents the idea of opposition to a truth—in consciousness, that would be consciousness—and by inflating what is ordinary and right here in consciousness into a god, it puts distance between it and the truth of consciousness. In other words, ego uses the concept of God to hold off the truth of consciousness.

The pure love and oneness and bliss that you seek is not a supreme being, a parent, or a power. It is merely and quite simply what consciousness is, and it is right here in and around you all the time. Using special terms like God, Christ, Spirit or miracle for it is not helpful because it makes the experience seem difficult, if not impossible, to reach. But you experience it all the time, and the only thing keeping you from being fully aware of it is the appearance of an ego in your consciousness playing out a false sense of its own autonomy. And if you are someone aware of a split mind, where, yes, ego has its play, but you have access to something else that is still and constant and there for you, that comforts and guides you, then you have access to the pure love that consciousness is without ego. In consciousness, there is nothing else.

See Chapter 25

Yes, we are dreaming. And no, God is not here. We know this because He sent the Holy Spirit in his place. Jesus urges us to use the HS as our contact to God (in the last few lessons). We are not abandoned here with only consciousness. Supposedly that is what ACIM is for.

And if you read chapter 25, don't worry about the need to Not see bodies. The Dream is in its infancy and none of us is going to get that far. We know the Dream is only in its birthing state because Trump ran against Harris :)

As chapter 25 states, there are two makers of the dream. The Holy Spirit and the ego. Given the choice we chose the ego ("choose again"). To picture the ego as having the power to keep out Holiness from this joint creation is a dark thought indeed.
