Do What Makes Sense to You

Since I’ve come to see that what unfolds in consciousness is an expression rather than for an outcome, I see everyone’s story as though it is a bloom in the garden of the Atonement. Whatever it is, is what it is supposed to be. There are no shoulds or shouldn’ts.

Sometimes, clients will tell me what they really value over what they think they should value. What they value are “worldly” things like career, relationships, sex, family, money, and various experiential experiences. What they feel they should value is God above these. But the Atonement (consciousness) has two parts, the expression of the idea of not-God (ego) and the expression of the idea of God (Spirit). Ego is not wrong or bad, it is a false experience. Ultimately, so is Spirit because everything in consciousness is not real. Spirit is different from ego in that it reflects Truth, but it is no more real than ego.

What is appearing in consciousness is not supposed to be anything other than what it is. So, ego has its place in consciousness, in the unfolding Atonement. There would be no Atonement without it because it is what is corrected! Each ego’s story is going to run until its part is over, whether that is through enlightenment, or the body reaches its end one way or another. Whatever makes sense to you to value or to do is what is meant to be appearing in consciousness. Resisting this by trying to take on values that do not make sense to you or do not come naturally is not going to change this. All it will do is make you unhappy.

It is a 180-degree turn to see your life as an expression, rather than as aiming for an outcome. But it can set you free to know you can do no wrong. Not just you, but everyone else as well. Nothing is wrong, everything is as it is supposed to be, everyone is playing their part perfectly, it couldn’t be any other way. That is Spirit’s big-picture view of what is unfolding in consciousness.

So, yes, if you feel this awareness is impossible or inhumane or it just does not make sense—run with that until (if) something in you says otherwise. You are perfect right now.

I think what you are proposing is New Age isn't it? Remember Liz, you have 40 years in this. You are seeing the Real World not a make believe real world. While New Age may be a wonderful way of living in the dream it is still the ego's thinking. If you change Atonement to Mind, split mind, and see the Courses goal of change at the source, it becomes an actual spiritual endeavor. That's how I see it this morning anyway.

Why a young person having got a taste of ACIM would ever opt to stick with it is beyond me. It really seems to be written for the over 40 crowd who have been roughed up a bit. I read Liz’s blogs the past few weeks as being in part, directed at her students. Terrific advice is being given. However, I don’t think it is about the Atonement. I have been reading Liz for a long time. For a good part of those years, she has been in pain. Sometimes some pretty rough spots. My experience with ACIM is, it is not a fun kind of thing. Jesus Himself says it was a very rough go for Him. If it was about His divinity He wouldn’t have written it. We are in a locked cage with a tiger make no mistake. I think T.25.VII is a much clearer picture of the atonement.

Well, I got off track on some of the third comment but I'll let it stand.

Will, I've been teaching, coaching, and mentoring students of ACIM for 23 years and I have had enough of watching people battering themselves trying to make happen what is not going to happen. The Atonement is not something that has to be brought into being. It is being expressed right now. Whatever one feels they are to do, is the Atonement unfolding through them. Guilting themselves for not feeling what they do not yet (and may never) feel is not helpful.

I agree. I thought that was what I was saying. I have been battered a good portion of my 20 years. Like I said this is not a fun thing. A good portion of my time with the Course has been a belief nothing will happen. I certainly don't expect to reach enlightenment. However, I don't think the atonement and the predestination of the dream are related and the atonement is in pretty ragged shape; Hence the Course. As Jesus says there has yet to be any substantial change. I said you gave terrific advice. I'm sorry if that fell on deaf ears.

The atonement and predestination are NOT the same thing.
The atonement is not automatic.
Every individual has a special function just for them.
Outcomes and purpose are the course basics.
The Course is an elective in time. You don't have to do it now.
The atonement did not begin when the dream started. Just God's answer to the dream as an idea.
The purpose of ACIM is mind training so you can help speed up the atonement.
Jesus is responsible for bringing God's answer to the dream into our awareness.
Just being in the dream is NOT the atonement. Read T.25.VII
The Course isn't the best fit for everyone. Relax. Do New Age or religion. It's fine.

liz,
throughout the years i've followed your postings there have been many times when your messages did not resonate and were even at times confusing. but i have kept open, out of the realization that i am coming along in your rear view mirror and patience on my part is needed. without fail, that patience has paid off.

such is the case with all your recent teachings about the Atonement ~at first they seemed limited, shallow. but i stayed open and resisted defining them. and then, with this most recent blog... ah... dawning awareness... of the depth... the power... the beauty... that is the Atonement occurring in this life.

and once again, the result has been an ever growing trust in my relationship with the Voice of Presence Within, the HS.

this is the week of giving thanks. i am immeasurably grateful for this path and for your help along the way, and extend to you my deepest gratitude. n
