Ego is Not the Person

Take this in, it is important, even if you can’t see it. In fact, I’m not sure it can be seen until ego falls away. But it undermines many of the fears ego promotes regarding the person’s continuance if ego falls away.

Ego and the person—the body and personality—are not the same thing.

Ego is the asserted idea in a seemingly individual consciousness that God is not real. Like Spirit, ego is an immaterial, disembodied idea in consciousness. But to seem to be more than an idea, to seem to be a reality apart from God, it projects itself onto material appearances in consciousness, specifically, a person, a neutral expression of consciousness. Here is another thought to take in:

Ego identifies with the person. The person, as a neutral expression of consciousness, does not have the agency to identify with anything.

Ego asserts that the person cannot live without it. But that is ego projecting, because it needs the person to seem to exist. This is why it equates enlightenment—when Spirit takes center in consciousness and ego falls away—with death. And it is why it prefers to fall away with the body. Enlightenment proves ego is not real, that ego is only an idea. But if ego falls away with the body instead, until the body’s death it can hold onto the illusion that it goes on through reincarnation or to reunite with the “souls” of loved ones in Heaven. It can seem to be eternal—to be real.

Ego seems to live in, as, and through the person, so ego asserts that without it, the person’s life will fall apart. But the person’s life has never been dependent on ego. As a neutral expression of consciousness, the person’s life is automatic. Its life is an expression of whichever consciousness is center, ego or Spirit. When Spirit is the center of consciousness, the person has a strong sense of being taken care of, of knowing it need not give thought to anything, that all of its needs will be met. Can you say the same for when ego is the center of consciousness? Disorder, dysfunction, lack, and loss do not express the Wholeness of Spirit. But they do express, and validate, ego. That is why:

Whatever catastrophe ego tells you to fear for the person is what it wants to occur.

Even when ego is the center of one’s consciousness it is never all that is in one’s consciousness. Spirit is in every consciousness. That is why ego’s fears do not all come true. But it is attracted to disorder, dysfunction, lack, and loss, as ideas and manifested, because that is its reality—not-God, not-Wholeness.

Recently, I awoke one morning to a quiet mind. It was quiet because ego was not here. But it was also not Peace, because Spirit was not actively present. Still, it was preferable to ego’s constant noise and pain! It was quiet, but not perfectly silent.  There was here what I call a neutral commentator simply pointing things out, like “the sky is so blue today!” or “I need a heavier jacket.” It also had opinions, but not judgments, like, “Oh, I don’t think that will work out well for her.” This quiet mind also processed things like what I watched on TV or a conversation I had. Memories also came up. But all these thoughts merely came up and went out, without emotional charge of any kind, without any energy being generated. They were all merely expressions of consciousness passing through.

If the neutral commentator had any attitude, it was mildly jolly, like a good-natured sports commentator.

The neutral commentator was familiar. I recognized it has always been here but was swamped by ego’s endless judgments and assertive energy so that it seemed indistinguishable from ego. When the quiet mind has been here before, ego hovered close, ready to pounce back in, its energy almost negating the quiet. But that day I did not sense ego around at all. It was back, however, the next day, but weakened and weakening, and further sorted out from neutral consciousness, from the person called Liz that continues without it.

I think the blog proved its own point of,

"In fact, I'm not sure it can be seen until the ego falls away... Ego and the person-the body and personality-are not the same thing."

We, as humans, are pretty much locked in as ego perception until we take some kind of action. We have to bring The Holy Spirit's power to bear on the ego. We do this through the Holy Instant (The Now).

When we give the Holy Instant to the Holy Spirit for our release we can say, "I give this Holy Instant for You to Extend to all my brothers." Saying this is for you! You become an integral part of God's plan to waken the sons of God. Their release returns to you as a 'Miracle' completing the Holy loop.

Who would have thought!
