Love

Human love is experienced as a physical sensation in the chest and/or stomach of the body. In the chest, you may experience a sensation of warmth or burning or expanding or fullness. (This is probably why we associate the heart with love). In your abdomen there may be a warmth or a tickling or a sensation of being pulled toward the loved one. There is often a strong urge to touch or to take a loved one into your arms and feel them against your chest and abdomen. Human love is an extreme feeling of affection that bonds you with another.

When you experience God’s love you may initially have a soaring sensation in your chest. But then it lifts you out of the body and liberates you from all form. You feel limitless and complete. When you return to experiencing a body you may have an ecstatic urge to embrace everyone. All of God is One; so in God peace, joy and love are experiences that are simultaneous and interchangeable.

Human love and the bonds it creates is a mere shadow of God’s love and Oneness. While pleasurable, it is fleeting. God’s love is eternal. Human love cannot substitute for the love and freedom and peace and joy of God because it is not the Truth. It will always leave you feeling empty and in pain. It will never be enough. God’s love is Who you are and is the only love that will ever satisfy you.
