Life and Death

Sometimes I’ll see literature from one religious institution or another and it will say that it has the answers to life’s big questions. One of those questions, of course, is “What happens when I die?” Often these big life questions are not so easily answered for A Course in Miracles students!

The question of what happens to “you” when “you die” is really one of those questions the ego asks to make a statement, not to seek an answer. What the ego is saying is: You are a body. It does not raise that concept to question! And that’s the concept that has to be challenged by you for you to remember you are One with God.

Reality is ultimately known without a form, unpictured and unseen. (T-27.III.5)

God is formless Being; Eternal and Infinite Life. You are One with God. All form, then, is the negation of God. Identifying with the ego/body is as close to death as you can get because form seems to make God – Life -- unreal. You cannot be both formless and form.

The curious belief that there is part of dying things that may go on apart from what will die, does not proclaim a loving God nor re-establish any grounds for trust. If death is real for anything, there is no life. Death denies life. (M-27.4)

This is the compromise the world tries to make: You will go back to God when the body is destroyed and your Spirit is released. You are both form and formless, you are both death and Life. Does this make sense? How can you be something and its opposite as well? You would cancel yourself out!

There is no death because what God created shares His life. There is no death because an opposite to God does not exist. There is no death because the Father and the Son are One. (W-167.1)

What happens when you die? You cannot die! You will remember you are Life when you let go of form.

When your body and your ego and your dreams are gone, you will know that you will last forever. Perhaps you think this is accomplished through death, but nothing is accomplished through death, because death is nothing. Everything is accomplished through life, and life is of the mind and in the mind. The body neither lives nor dies, because it cannot contain you who are life. (T-6.V.A.1)

very cool, 2 near death experiences thought me about death, not to fear it, to recognize it, and that the Holy Spirt speaks. Life is amazing in a Spiritual sense. Death will be devine Spiritually speaking of course.

how do babies recognize there is no death when they die? maybe its a stupid question.

It's not a stupid question, you are just asking it from an upside-down state of mind, where what is unreal seems real and What is Real seems unreal.
There are no babies, there are no adults, there are no individual minds in bodies. All personal selves are just erroneous ideas in one mind. Nothing real happens when they seem to die, just as nothing real happened when they seemed to be born.
This is something that you will see in time. At first, it seems that you are one mind among many, but as you work through your obstacles to peace and go deeper into your mind, you will understand that there is only one mind.

I suppose there is no point asking what one should say to a non course student regarding the loss of a loved one but I will ask anyway. Im thinking that agreeing they are in pain validates they are a body and would be counter-productive spiritually, yet what does one say? Do we say the normal idiotic but hopefully comforting things while remaining mindful that we are one and eternal?

You are responsible only for changing your own mind, so, yes, even when your mind is centered in God, you will often find yourself saying the usual things to others who appear to be hurting: "I'm so sorry for your loss. Is there anything I can do for you?"

Suddenly it seems that Death is just a wish.
Another ego program to maintain a belief of separation!
