Ask: Can you interpret "all things work together for good"?

Please interpret this phrase from the text 4:V:1: ‘All things work together for good. There are no exceptions except in the ego's judgment.’ In the ego-world/battlefield it hardly seems possible that ‘all things works together for good’. I can understand that on a metaphysical level it is possible; however, the world we see with the body’s eyes is a battlefield.” – K.A.

The world you see is always an interpretation. You see forms moving about and decide what they mean. In fact, a practice I learned was to sort out fact from my projection of meaning. For example, let’s say you see John shoot George. The facts is one body shot the other body. But, depending on the context, you may interpret that as good or bad. If it is during war and John is on your side and George is the enemy, you will probably see it as good. Or, if George is someone you judge as a “bad guy” you may also see it as good. Maybe John shot George in self-defense and you think it’s regrettable, but justified. Or you could see things in black and white and think that anybody shooting anybody else for any reason is wrong, so it is bad.

However, you could say, “John shot George” and decide you don’t know, in the big picture, what this means. You may pity one or the other or both. But you could make no judgment on it in the recognition that you don’t know why things unfolded that way.

Now to your quote: The unfolding story of the universe of form is the moment of the idea of not-Truth/the-undoing-of-the-idea-of-not-Truth in the Mind of Truth (God) played out in time. So we are always living in the undoing (Atonement) of the idea-of-not-Truth, even if, in the moment, we cannot see that larger story. So all things, no matter how they appear, do work for good if you judge the Undoing as “good”!

“In order to judge anything rightly, one would have to be fully aware of an inconceivably wide range of things; past, present and to come. One would have to recognize in advance all the effects of his judgments on everyone and everything involved in them in any way. And one would have to be certain there is no distortion in his perception, so that his judgment would be wholly fair to everyone on whom it rests now and in the future.” (M-10.3)

When you watch a movie and you don’t know the outcome, you may fret over the protagonist’s every challenge. But if you know there will be a happy ending, you relax and understand that everything that happens leads to that ending. You can look at the world the same way, knowing that, no matter how things appear right now, it is happening as part of the Undoing, the happy ending.

Something interesting happened a little while ago and I thought I would share it. It is about me and not directed at other people.

About ten years ago when I used to watch cable news and TV I found myself getting angry and getting in arguments with people about the things I was watching. It was affecting my life to the point that I said enough. It had to be bad for me to take such a drastic step because I like my TV. I bought a Roku and set the TV up to watch Amazon and Netflix and some of the other channels that come with it. I like documentaries and I like movies.

I heard about the mayhem going on with the church shootings and got curious and turned on cable news to see how they were handling it. After being away so long it was like a physical force slapping me in the face. The advertisements…the advertisements. I turned the sound off and watch the images… I waited for the news and turned the volume on and it was just too much and I shut it off. I could feel my whole body tense up.

I turn on cable if there is a sports show on but other than that I never watch it. It is a toxic force (for me). Like I said, this is for me not for you. It was just very startling.

I mean reacting to Will's post...i watch Leave it to Beaver ancient reruns in the mirning, taking a break from television news...for a while now...i flip, see some of the headlines, then get nervous, agitatwd, a little...i know we can't seem to ignore the world and it's goings on, but we need to interpret it with the HS...to be at real peace no matter what...but taking a test from it is ok.

i can't listen to or read the news without the HS, or fear will result. so i have made a commitment to not listen unless my mind is focused enough to do so in His Presence. i bring with me the intention, with His Help, of getting my prayer list for the day. in this way it becomes a practice of extending the miracle,
and fear is transformed to Love.

I watch Leave it to Beaver reruns with the Holy Spirit! I enjoy the shows because whatever situation Wally and Theodore get into, it all works out at the end of the episode. Kind of like where we find ourself now...no matter what we seem to be going through, it'll all end up resolved in the end.

yes - inviting HS into everything! thank you christine. i remember particularly enjoying wally's adolescent wisdom, usually about the adult world, during the boy's conversations in their beds at night. there was a quiet assurance in the program that eventually, in all situations, kindness would reign. i go forth today with that blessing. n
