"Benign" Forms of Attack

All attack is Self attack. It cannot be anything else. Arising from your own decision not to be what you are, it is an attack on your identification. Attack is thus the way in which your identification is lost, because when you attack, you must have forgotten what you are. (T-10.II.5)

All attack is the same, whether you are attacking God, yourself or someone else. That’s because there is only one form of attack and that is the belief that you are not as God created you. Because you believe this, you believe you have attacked God. What you don’t see is that the attack was on yourself. And this you project by believing the world attacks you. And then you attack yourself again by thinking you must attack back to protect a “self” God did not create but that you believe you are. Round and round we go.

Some versions of attack are obvious: Physical violence and aggression, anger, yelling, negative thoughts. Others are not commonly recognized as attacks: Seeing bodies as real, striving toward goals in this world, special relationships, idols. In short, if you are not using your experience of the world to awaken from the world, you are using it to attack yourself.

Since you did not leave an email address to respond to I hope you check back for the answer!

There are no "supposed tos". But when you set a goal in the world for its own sake you are setting a goal away from God. But if you are connecting to the Holy Spirit then the world is no longer an end in itself, but a means to remembering God through your relationship with the Holy Spirit. Every situation is an opportunity to extend Love. That is its only meaning. Follow the Holy Spirit and outwardly your life will look like any other but you will be coming from Love rather than separation, and it will be a means rather than an end in itself.

I imagine myself keeping an appointment with Dr. Freud for help with dream analysis. My part, as the patient, is to describe what I see and experience in my dream. Plus, the willingness to accept help, to accept correction for the wrong thinking, the wrong belief that makes this dream world.

Yes it is. I've been seeing a trend among "enlightened teachers" where they think it's "their job" to "righteously' attack where they perceive "guilt" in another where there is none in the first place. They seem to forget that it's a curriculum for them and not their "brother" because there is no "brother" and what is love now becomes anger because it takes many forms and is very subtle, and there are several messages in
The Course where it clearly says the ALL attack is unwarrented.
